The Worship of the Church
What is worship?
When we say “worship,” we mean the adoration of the Blessed Trinity—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—by the very means Jesus himself gave us: The Holy Eucharist, commonly called The Mass or The Holy Communion. In the Mass we come to Calvary, made participants in Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection through the gift of his true Body and Blood. In the Mass, earth joins heaven as we receive the grace of Jesus’ real presence for the healing of body and soul.
Descriptions of Services
Low Mass
This service is a simple 35-minute Eucharist, without music or sermon. Low Mass contains all the essential elements of the Eucharist, and many worshipers find its simplicity appealing.
Sung Mass
Offered on Sundays and prominent Holy Days, this liturgy includes hymns, congregational chants, a sermon, and often incense.
Evensong
This is the Church’s service of daily evening prayer. It includes hymns, singing of the psalms, and the hearing of Scripture. It very often includes special choral or solo music.
Stations of the Cross
Generally offered during Lent. This is a service of fourteen meditations on the Suffering and Crucifixion of Jesus.
